Initiation I + II

Fifteen years after the destruction of his temple and the assumed death of his beloved son, Peter, widowed Shaolin priest Caine comes to the town, where his son Peter works as a police detective. Asked for help by Chinatown’s residents, Caine stays to fight against a mysterious mobster. Peter happens to be the detective working undercover as a hitman. What Peter doesn’t know at this time is that Tan is responsible for the destruction of the temple from his childhood and he also sees a shaolin priest that he thinks might know his father. The priest collapses in the alley after having rescued the Ancient from a burning building. Peter goes to the hospital only to realize that he doesn't have to ask this man about his father, because he IS his father. After fifteen years father and son are finally reunited. They take down Tan. Caine decides to end his wanderings and to get to know his son again.

Shadow Assassin

Peter has to work as a bodyguard for the prominent author Everett Cooper. Cooper revealed the secret of an old cult in his latest novel and now is hunted by an evil assassin. Shortly after Peter and his new partner, his old friend Kira Blakemore, are assigned to the case Cooper’s aide is killed. Cooper interrupts a romantic dinner between Peter and Kira and on their way home Kira becomes the next victim of the Shadow assassin. She too bears the killer’s symbol on her forehead: the chinese sign for a cobra. Broken-hearted Peter asks his father for help and Caine learns soon that the killer is a Chi Ru-master. A creature, half human, half phantom.

Sunday at the Hotel with George

Peter’s foster sister Caroline celebrates her wedding in the Sutton Place Hotel. At the same time, George Malkovich and his crew try to rob the hotel’s safe several floors below. Realizing Peter is a cop, George takes Peter’s other foster sister Kelly as a hostage, threatening to hose the room with bullets. Of course, neither Peter and his father, nor Captain Blaisdell, Peter’s foster father, and his colleagues stand by without taking action. While Blaisdell and his men sideline George's men within the ball room, Caine and Peter have to climb down the elevator shaft from the thirtieth floor, regardless of Peter's fear of heights.

Rico, Caine’s student, had a heated argument with Tim, leader of one of the local gangs, within Caine’s kwoon. That same night, Tim is found dead in Caine’s rooms, murdered with Caine’s ceremonial Shaolin dagger. Since Caine was involved in the fight between Rico and Tim, he is the main suspect of murdering Tim. His persistant silence about the murder causes Peter to suspect that Caine knows more than he reveals. When the young detective comes to visit his father in solitary confinement, only to discover his father has escaped, he covers for his father's disappearance. His only hope is to solve the crime before it's too late for Caine.

Peter’s new partner, Marty Stramm, is determined to track down gunrunner Oland, who recently acquired teflon bullets. Oland also is responsible for the death of Stramms former partner. Stramm release his stress of the job at home, abusing his wife Emily and son Billy. When Peter hears that Billy was beaten up at school, he suggests that Emily take Billy to his father to take some Kung Fu lessons. Emily accepts his advice and also takes lessons. When Stramm, who despises Kung Fu, finds out, he beats up his wife at home. Billy can’t take that anymore and to protect his mother he steals his father's spare weapon and decides to go after his father.

A series of mysterious murders happen in Chinatown. All victims are of chinese heritage and their bodies are mutilated. Jennifer Sung, the last victim’s granddaughter, tells Peter that her grandfather had gambling debts and a professional gambler got hold of him. When Peter tries to interrogate her relatives, he comes up against a wall of silence. But his Chinese education comes in handy when he’s able to speak in fluent Chinese. Meanwhile Caine recognizes the cause of death: the death tile that was added to the game. A dishonor for every Chinese. To expose the murderer Caine gets involved into a game of life and death with the chinese gambler Quo Chen.

Of course, Caine doesn’t allow that something happens to his student and so he gets involved.

Ex-Shaolin Tan and present crimelord of a chinatown gang is an old enemy of the Caines. He was driven away from Chinatown by Caine and Peter shortly after their reunion. Now he is back to take revenge on father and son. Though Caine can’t escape him, he uses an old Shaolin tradition, the ritual of challenge. Peter would prefer to use Western ways to stop Tan, but acquiesces to his father’s ways. Caine accepts the challenge as a matter of honor. Of course, Tan plays dirty. He kidnaps the ancient.

Reproaching himself bitterly, he quits the force. His friend Epstein uses unorthodox ways to get Peter back from his misery.

A crazy man, armed with nitroglycerin, captures a school bus and keeps the teacher and her students as hostages. It’s the schizophrenic Max Forrester whom Peter knows from his past. Against the instructions from the Squad commander, Peter interferes. He convinces Max to let most of the students go. In return Peter volunteers as a hostage, and promises to take Max to a safe place. But Caine and the police are close on their heels and when they reach their goal it comes to a climax.

Duncan’s daughter Suzanna suffers from a rare and seldom form of leukemia. His last hope is Caine. A potent remedy is a special plant called “Dragon’s Eye”. But this plant has to be fresh to make an impact. So Caine goes to the woods to look for the plant not knowing that Gant, a vigilante the FBI is searching for, is using the woods as a hiding place. Meanwhile Peter is looking for his father to warn him, but he is too late. Gant already overpowered Caine.

Annie's life is being threatened and she assumes that her former friend, Mike Weston, an university professor, is responsible. Instead of confiding in Peter or her husband, she meets with Weston in his hotel room and asks him to explain himself. Weston strenously denies his responsibilty. But on her way back home Annie is attacked and Caine can save her at the last moment. Though blind, Annie is able to create an composite identikit with Caine’s help. Peter recognizes the attacker and arrests him a short time later.

The Lacquered Box

Peter is shot by a junkie and recovers from surgery in the hospital. While Caine keeps watch over his sleeping son he remembers another incident that nearly cost Peter his life shortly after their reunion. A Chinese thug named Clarence wanted to get rid of Caine and planted a bomb in Caine’s new home. Peter, who merely wanted to visit his father, was able to disarm the bomb. To get revenge Clarence gets two corrupt cops to get Peter out of the way. Pretending to need help from Peter in a case, they lure him into a trap. Injected with a deathly dose of Speedball, Peter was left to die in a drug den. Caine, who followed his son, took him home and started detox. But all too soon Clarence and the cops found out that Peter was still alive and come to Caine's brownstone to finish off Peter.

Because a drug syndicate runs short on the drugs, the junkies have to pay higher prices. To provide money, more and more burglaries take place. Caine and Peter discover that a Chinese druglord is behind the faked dope shortage. The lead directs them to a transvestites bar, where Peter has to work undercover as a woman who pretends to be a man. Peter asks his father to help him take down the druglord's operations. Caine gets work at the bar as a busboy. Caine quickly gains the druglords confidence, who wants to have Caine around as a good luck charm. Not his wisest decision.

Valerie witnessed the murder of her friend Charlie. Now she is supposed to testify as the principal witness against her former lover Jason Torrence, head of the local mob. Though the FBI takes her into protective custody she doesn’t trust anybody and insist on Caine as her bodyguard. Due to mistaken identity Peter is called in for the duty. He is pretty amazed when he recognizes Valerie as a friend from his childhood in the temple. Valerie was one of his fathers students. When Valerie finally meets the older Caine, he realizes that she is still dependent on Torrence. To get over her fears she has to face her former lover.

Shaman

Caine has a vision of his Indian friend Two-Feathers, a former student of his. Thereby he and Peter go to the reservation. Coincidentally, Blaisdell wanted someone to infiltrate the Indian community. Dancing Moon, Two-Feather’s sister, tells them that white businessmen are trying to buy reservation land so they can build a casino there. Two-Feathers is in disagreement with most of his Indian fellows who believe this is their chance to make easy money. Peter and Caine can’t prevent the murder of Two-Feathers. As strangers in the reservation they need Dancing Moon’s help.

Several female college students disappear. Since nobody asks for a ransom the police do not have a clue as to what is going on. When Caine’s favorite student also dissapears, he and Peter come upon a white slavery ring by accident. The Japanese Takari plans to force the young women into prostitution in Japan. With the help of a former girlfriend Peter is able to get into contact with the slave-traders.

Redemption 1

Decades ago, Caine’s grandfather killed the Chinese emperor’s nephew by accident. Since then a hex is put on the family. When the Chinese community wants to crown the next emperor, Caine sees his chance to regain the family’s honor. For this he even endangers Peter’s life, confident that his son will master the task. Peter is officially assigned to protect Sing Ling, the young heir of the Chinese throne, while his father takes this duty unofficialy. Quickly becoming friends with the segregated Sing Ling, Peter shows him what the outside world is like. All of sudden Caine disappears.
